It is very unlikely that a mom will maintain an adequate milk supply if baby is going 3-4 hours between feeds during the early weeks. During growth spurts it is also likely baby will feed as often as 1 1/2 hours. Mom also shouldn't be to pushy about getting baby to sleep through the night if she plans to maintain an adequate milk supply. My last baby of 6 has fallen into a great schedule by 10 weeks. Her schedule is now getting closer to every 3 hours. She has 2 long stretches during the night. She is in my room and I hear her as soon as she starts to stir. We are awake and nursing before her fussing turns to all out screaming. She eats well and drifts off to sleep quickly. We are both back to sleep rather quickly because we room share.

Re: Get Baby to Sleep in the Crib

Baby should never be left to cry it out before 6 months! Try to keep to a somewhat regular schedule, but also pay attention to the signals she's giving you... if the baby's deep asleep 2 hours into a nap, don't wake her! Five hours is probably the longest I'd let her go without waking her up to eat. In about a month, if she will do 7 hours or so overnight, go for it!

Re: Baby Nap Questions

Jessica,
Thank you for the questions, and I'm sorry to hear that you're struggling! The first thing you should do is start teaching your baby to sleep in the crib every time (naps and nighttime). Start doing this one time out of three. If he cries, that's OK. Go in every 15 minutes and soothe him, then leave again. When you start seeing progress, go to two times out of three. It might seem hard now, but trust me it'll be harder at 6 or 9 months!

If you're out running errands and he catches a nap in the car seat, that's OK, but he'll probably need to "catch up" a little bit in the next nap.

Your little one is also getting old enough that you might try skipping that early evening nap, and instead setting an early bedtime (around 7 or 7:30) to encourage sleeping through the night.

Re: Choosing a Night Light for Baby

Twilight turtle rocks!!! For the longest time, we had a schedule down where he would take a nap in the mid morning about 2 hours or so after waking up, take an afternoon nap, and then maybe take a short evening nap, and then go to bed sometime between 9 and 10. Well here recently that schedule has not been happening. First of all, he likes to take his naps while I am holding him. He will not nap unless he is snuggled up to me. I just went back to work this week, so now his dad stays home with him while I am gone and he will not nap. How do I break this habit? Also, his afternoon nap is usually taken in his car seat because that is when I tend to run errands. I know napping in his car seat is fine, but if I don't run errands, he won't nap.

Also, he will not sleep in his crib at all. He sleeps in his swing at night. I want to break this habit as well. Any advice that I can get on all of this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Baby Nap Questions

How long should I let my baby nap? She wakes up STILL every 2-3 hours. She has never slept through the night and its getting so frustrating. I have tried just putting the pacifier back in, that didn't work. I tried rocking back to sleep, that didnt work. The only thing that works...feeding her every time. I don't know if she is really hungry or if now it has just become a habit, but by this age she should be able to sleep better. What should I do?! I don't want to just let her cry it out.

Re: Aden & Anais Swaddle Blankets

Best blankets EVER!!

Re: How to Help a Teething Baby

I had heard about Amber Teething Necklaces on many mommy blogs. I'm usually not a believe in that type of stuff, so I was not really interested in paying $20 for one. However, I won a gift card to an online retailer that sells natural baby items, so I went ahead and got the necklace.
There is no way to know for sure if it works or not since baby cannot tell us if she notices a difference, but I have to say that I have NOT noticed a difference. Yet I still put it on her from time to time just in case (I figure while it might not help, it certainly cannot hurt, as long as she is supervised in it). That being said, it is still very cute and I can wear it as a bracelet myself, so not a total waste of the gift card.

Re: One Week to Better Baby Sleep Habits

i'm also wondering this! maybe just cut the time in half?
